ISMAR 2002 takes place in Darmstadt, Germany and is hosted at the Technical University. The host country Germany is currently funding the ARVIKA project, which is probably the largest national R&D activity in the AR field. Beyond local research, ISMAR features an excellent program compiled from contributions from researchers all over the world, many of the works breaking new ground. This year ISMAR received over 90 submissions, more than 3 times the number of submissions compared to the conference series' beginnings. Based on a careful reviewing process, 26 papers, 13 poster papers and over 20 demos were selected for presentation. Highlights: + 7 paper sessions representing the state of the art in the field + Posters and live demos - 1st hand experience of cutting edge research + Industrial exhibition showcasing technology and solutions + Invited talks highlighting premier industry and academic activities + Workshop on the popular software ARToolKit (see www.art02.org) + OpenLab day at Fraunhofer IGD research center (!)
